NLC summons Judicial Service, Finance Ministry over JUSAG strike
The National Labour Commission (NLC) has summoned the Judicial Service and the Ministry of Finance over an impending nationwide strike by the Judicial Service Staff Association of Ghana (JUSAG).
In a letter signed by Dr Bernice Welbeck, Acting Executive Secretary of the Commission, the NLC said it was acting under Section 139 of the Labour Act, 2003 (Act 651).
“The National Labour Commission, in exercise of its powers under Section 139 of the Labour Act, Act 651, hereby summons the parties to appear before the Commission on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. for a hearing of the issues in dispute,” it said.
The Commission further directed the Judicial Service and the Ministry of Finance to submit, within three working days upon receipt of the letter, the status of the workers’ demands.
JUSAG has expressed dissatisfaction over the non-payment of eight months’ salary arrears covering January to August 2025.
In a statement, the Association announced its decision to embark on an indefinite nationwide strike beginning January 19, 2026.
“The strike shall continue until our demand for the payment of eight months’ salary arrears from January to August 2025 is fully met,” the statement, signed by Mr Samuel Afotey Otu, National President of JUSAG, said.
It said the members are frustrated by what they described as an “unbearable situation.”
“We are unable to accept any excuse any longer. Therefore, the National Executive Council (NEC) of JUSAG, at an emergency meeting, resolved to embark on an indefinite strike starting Monday, January 19, 2026.”
