EPA advises Ghanaian public to observe noise regulations
The Environmental Protection Authority (EPA), Sogakope Area Office, has urged the public to adhere to approved noise regulations during the festive season to safeguard public health and promote community harmony.
Mr. Derick Ashia Logo, Area Head of the EPA Sogakope Office, noted that the advisory applies to religious institutions, entertainment centres, restaurants, cafés, and households within Sogakope and surrounding communities. Operators of churches, mosques, shrines, pubs, bars, nightclubs, and similar facilities must ensure that noise levels remain within the limits prescribed under the Ghana Standards for Health Protection – Requirements for Ambient Noise (GS 1222:2018).
He outlined that the permissible noise levels for residential areas are 55 decibels during the daytime (6:00–22:00 hours) and 48 decibels at night (22:00–6:00 hours). Mr. Logo reminded facility managers and owners to operate with valid Environmental Permits, warning that operating without or with an expired permit is not allowed.
The EPA encourages operators without valid permits to visit the Sogakope Office to regularize their operations. The Authority will continue public education and stakeholder engagement, and residents are urged to report noise-related concerns. Mr. Logo appealed to the public to cooperate in maintaining a peaceful and healthy environment throughout the festive season.
