More than 100,000 graduate from Ghana universities and other institutions in 2025
Tens of thousands posted on national service
The Ghana Education Sector Report records more than 100,000 students graduate from universities and other tertiary education institutions every year and there are 306 tertiary level and professional education institutions in the country.
The Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC), the state institution that regulates tertiary education and gives accreditation and certification of higher education records a total of 306 institutions on its website. They include public and private universities and other specialised tertiary education level institutions.
The Ghana Education Sector Report cited in Parliament in June 2025 indicates that about 109,874 graduated from the universities in the country in a year. But only 10 per cent gets regular jobs within the period of their graduation.
Of that number, several thousands are posted for national service across the country.
For the 2025/2026 service year the National Service Authority has deployed 85,159 persons – and these are only first degree graduates and possibly includes graduates from previous years who are now signing up for the compulsory national service programme, which should be done at least in the year of graduation.
Post-graduate degree holders are not required to do national service, so they are not included in the total number.
I haven’t been able to find a central source for all the numbers that graduated this year. So, I had to dig on the Internet and the websites of as many universities and institutions as possible. I couldn’t find the information on the websites of some of the institutions. As a result, therefore, the institution specific numbers in the table below are what I was able to collect manually. The table does not represent the entire spectrum of the institutions in Ghana. It is also possible that some of the figures might not be accurate, it is impossible at this time to double-check with the institutions. But they are close as they can possibly get.
Table of institutions and how many students have graduated in 2025. The total number includes all categories of certification – Bachelors, Masters, PhD, Diploma and Certificates.
