MP raises concerns on location of President Akufo-Addo’s statue
Mr. Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Ellembelle, has reacted to the unveiling of a statue of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo at the Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital in the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis.
According to the MP, the statue of the President raised serious questions about his priorities and commitment to the people of the Western Region.
Mr. Buah, also the Deputy Majority Leader in Parliament, expressed the concern in a statement copied to the Ghana News Agency.
The statement said: “This extravagant display of self-aggrandisement comes at a time when the Region has been largely neglected, with pressing needs and concerns left unaddressed.”
It said the government continued to take the Western Region for granted and that the gesture was a misplaced priority.
It said the Western Region lagged behind in terms of development though it contributed a chunk of resources to the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP), so the government must do better for the people.
