Roads Minister tasks engineers to stick to schedule on Tema-Motorway bridge

Kwasi Amoako-Atta – Minister of Roads

The Minister of Roads and Highway, Mr Kwesi Amoako-Atta, has tasked engineers on the Lakplakpa River Bridge on the Tema Motorway to rise above the setback of Wednesday’s downpour to meet the Friday, 17 June deadline.

The downpour, which started around 10 am had forced engineering works to halt temporarily.

The Minister expressed satisfaction at the progress of work when he visited the site on Wednesday amid a downpour.

The Tema-Accra bound section of the Bridge is undergoing emergency repair works due to a defect on the steel deck that has affected the steel beams and welds.

“The problem is that it cannot be done in bit. We must replace it now not with metal or steel plate because the motorway itself is made of concrete, so we want to build a concrete slap in replacement,” he said.

He, therefore, appealed to the public to exercise patience as engineers worked day and night deploying modern building technology to get the Bridge in shape.

Mr. Amoako-Atta also commended the police for professionalism in handling congestion on the road.

“They have managed traffic well so far and you can see there is so much order here and the movement of vehicles despite the congestion,” he said.

Casting work is expected to be done tonight if the weather is good.
