Sekondi-Takoradi MCE granted self cognisance bail for traffic offence

The Takoradi Circuit Court A, presided over by Mr Michael Cudjoe Ampedu, on Friday granted Abdul- Mumin Issah, the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Chief Executive, self -cognisance bail to reappear in court on Thursday, February 17.

Abdul-Munim who is facing two charges of careless, inconsiderate driving and causing danger to road users pleaded not guilty to both charges.

Prosecuting, Police Superintendent Emmanuel Basintele, told the court that, on Wednesday February 02, at about 20.30 hours, the accused who was driving a Toyota Land Cruiser with registration number 5651-20 approached the Kwesiminstsim cemetery Police Snap Check Point from the Takoradi direction of the road.

The prosecution said the accused, when approaching the check pointed mounted by the Police, failed to observe the traffic, and used an unapproved route reserved for Police and other security agencies and in the process, nearly hit one of the Police Officers on duty at the check point controlling traffic.

Superintendent Basintele said the accused was confronted by the Police and he took offence and began shouting on top of his voice, saying, “stupid, ugly, I will beat you to death, do you know me? I will transfer you to Enchi”.

He said in that situation, the Police called for reinforcement and the accused was arrested and charged with careless and inconsiderate driving, causing danger to other road users.
