GFA drags Olympics to Disciplinary Committee

Ghana Premier League (GPL) side Accra Great Olympics has been dragged to the Disciplinary Committee of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) for misconduct during their league game against Accra Hearts of Oak at the Accra Sports Stadium.

According to the GFA, Great Olympics have been charged on three counts of misconducts for allegedly breaching the GFA Matchday COVID-19 protocols and the GFA Disciplinary Code in their GPL match against Hearts of Oak at the Accra Sports Stadium.

According to the charge, the club failed to comply with the existing Matchday COVID-19 protocols put in place by the GFA and the Government of Ghana by allowing a large number of supporters into the stadium which exceeded the allocated number to be admitted and failing to ensure social distancing and the wearing nose masks.

Also, the club was charged for failing to implement existing safety rules and regulations in and around the stadium by failing to ensure social distancing, wearing of nose masks in the stadium and washing of hands at various entry points of the stadium.

In addition, the Chief Executive Officer of Accra Great Olympics, Oloboi Commodore has also been charged on two counts of misconducts for comments he made in a radio interview.

The Chief Executive of the Premier League Club in reference to Accra Hearts of Oak allegedly stated in an interview on Happy 98.9FM that ‘if not for dubious officiating they wouldn’t be where they are now.

The comment was deemed to be an offensive statement which in the opinion of the Association was ungentlemanly and likely to bring the game into disrepute.

The club and the official are expected to submit their statements of defence or appear in person before the GFA Disciplinary Committee.
