Five abducted by pirates in Ghanaian fishing vessel: Official

Pirates attacked a Ghanaian fishing vessel and five crew members were abducted in Benin territorial waters, a Ghanaian official said Tuesday.

Felix Charles Asare, the Crime Officer of the Marine Police Unit in Ghana’s eastern port city Tema, said the police had received a report concerning the attack on a Ghanaian-registered tuna-fishing vessel close to Benin, but details were scanty.

He said the pirates abducted five of the crew members, including four Koreans and one Filipino.

“We have been notified that Ghanaian naval officials have recovered the vessel and are on their way to the Tema port with the rest of the crew members,” he said.
