Dismissed Soldier, three others arrested for alleged robbery

A 35-year-old dismissed military officer, who used a military vehicle with registration number 46 GA to allegedly rob at gunpoint sand winners at Ofaakor near Kasoa, has been arrested by the Central Region Police.

Corporal Kwame Ampaw was arrested together with his three civilian accomplices Isaac Appiah, a 43-year-old mechanic employee at Burma Camp, Emmanuel Arthur, and Bash Sulley, unemployed.

The Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Central Regional Police Command, DSP Irene Serwaa Oppong, who confirmed the arrest, said some of the sand winners had gunshot wounds and were sent to the Winneba Trauma hospital for treatment.

On the arrest, she said the Kasoa Divisional Police Command received a distress call that about five men in a military vehicle had attacked sand winning workers on-site.

They robbed them of their mobile phones, various sums of money, and seized seven tipper truck keys at gunpoint and sped off to the house of Nai Atopi at Nai Atopi Hills.

She said the Police proceeded to Nai Atopi Palace and arrested the suspects and a search was conducted at the scene and 11 assorted mobile phones, an ID card bearing the name of Emmanuel Dugble, one pump action gun with number MVO351885 and a cash sum of GH¢1,511 were retrieved from them.

DSP Oppong said five persons sustained gunshot wounds during the robbery and were rushed to the Trauma and Specialist Hospital for treatment at Winneba.

DSP Oppong said the suspects were detained and exhibits including the military vehicle have been retained for investigation while Nai Atopi has been invited by the police to assist with the investigation.
