President Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo-Addo, has given the green light to the Electoral Commission (EC) and other constitutional and statutory bodies to moderately scale up their activities.

By easing measures for containing COVID-19, President Nana Akufo-Addo, had offered the EC the green light to compile the new voter register that is scheduled to start in the last week of June, barring any hitch.

Delivering his 10th Covid-19 containment address on Sunday, the President, stressed that bodies such as the National Commission for Civic Education and the National Identification Authority should operate but must adhere to preventive measures including social distancing and the necessary hygiene and safety protocols.

He said conferences, workshops, and weddings, with limited numbers not exceeding one hundred persons present, with the appropriate social distancing and hygiene protocols, could take place.

President Nana Akuffo-Addo, said political activities with the exception of political rallies could resume with a maximum number of 100 persons as well as the observance of the necessary hygiene and safety protocols.

He stated that the state regulatory agencies would undertake random checks to ensure conformity with these rules, and that the security services would be tasked to enforce them.

“Should any institution fail to adhere to these directives, its activity will be immediately prohibited, and relevant sanctions applied,” he said.

“I have, by Executive Instrument, provided for these new directions, and extended the suspension of the remaining public gatherings, as set out in E.I. 64 of March, 15 until July,” he said.
