TMA validates over 900 streets to be named

The Tema Metropolitan Assembly (TMA) has  identified and validated over 900 streets and 12,600  properties to be named and numbered under the street naming exercise.

The Assembly has held a number of consultations at various levels with stakeholders including Tema Traditional Council and the TDC Development Company to solicit for names to be assigned to all the identified streets.

Mr Felix Mensah Anang-La, Tema Metropolitan Chief Executive, who disclosed this, said in his outfit’s effort to complete the street naming and property addressing exercise, all streets and parcels within the Metropolis have been digitized.

Mr Anang-La indicated that field exercises have been done to validate the digitized parcels and streets within communities One to 12, industrial area and Tema Newtown.

He added that streets in communities 4 to 12 had been assigned names from the collection of names given by stakeholders and the TMA noting that a total of 6,458 digital addresses that had been generated for properties in communities four to 12 would be tagged in combination with property addresses on the same plate for the respective properties.

He announced that TMA had contracted a private entity to implement on its behalf the Planning Enforcement Exercise comprising of monitoring of physical developments within the Metropolis in line with section (151) of the Land Use and Spatial Planning Act, 2016, Act 925.

“The contractor will deploy various strategies to sensitize property owners and potential developers on their responsibilities in the development and building permitting process, and to provide a basis to assess permit compliance for existing and ongoing developments, for further action”, he stated.
