Some Nigerians are importing pizza from London – Report

Just when you thought you haven’t heard the last of what Nigerians are capable of doing, then this hits you. Some Nigerians are said to be importing pizza on daily basis from London. A Minister of State told a Senate Committee, according to a Premium Times report.

Audu Ogbeh, the Minister of Agriculture is reported to have expressed sadness over the uncontrolled importation of goods into the country.

The Minister said these on Tuesday March 26, 2019 when he appeared before the country’s Senate Committee on Agriculture to defend the Ministry’s budget for 2019.

The Premium Times report citing the Cable Newspaper quoted the Minister as saying those who import pizza, do so usually in the morning through British Airways.

“Do you know, sir, that there are Nigerians who use their cellphones to import pizza from London? They buy in London and bring it on British Airways in the morning to pick up at the airport,” Ogbeh said.

The Minister who was obviously not amused by the situation pointed out that there are more than 50 pizza outlets in Nigeria.

He also stated that Nigeria imports $18 million worth of toothpicks every year and $400 million worth of tomato paste every year, while in Nigeria a basket of tomatoes costs less than 2000 naira.
