Blazing fire leaves GH¢10,500.00 cash, properties in ruins

A devastating fire that engulfed some houses at Konadu Yiadom, a suburb of Kumasi on Tuesday evening, has left an amount of GH¢10,000.00 and several other properties in ruins.

The raging fire, which cause is yet to be ascertained, swept through three adjacent houses, a hair dressing salon and a carpentry shop, causing extensive damage to several of properties.

“I have lost almost everything in my salon, including cash of GH¢3,000.00 as a result of the inferno,” Ms. Selina Antwi, 47, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA), Kumasi, amidst tears.

Items destroyed in the fire ranged from hair dryer, refrigerator, a number of television sets, container shop, carpentry working tools, clothes to other personal belongings of the victims.

Mr. Michael Okofo, a businessman who lost an amount of GH¢7,500.00 and several other properties worth thousands of cedis in the fire, said his attention was drawn to a smoke from a nearby carpentry shop at about 6 p.m.

“Before we could identify what was really happening, the smoke caught fire and spread to other houses in the vicinity,” he said.

Assistant Chief Fire Officer Joshua Nguah, the Ashanti Regional Fire Commander, said his outfit was investigating the incident.

Meanwhile, a team of police personnel from the Kumasi Metropolitan Police Command has visited the scene of the incident.
