Another accused remanded over defilement of 13-year-old girl

One more person involved in the defilement of a 13-year-old girl at Nungua has been arrested and on Wednesday appeared before an Accra Circuit Court.

The suspect Richmond Ayim, a Home Lodge Manager, pleaded not guilty, and the court presided over by Mrs. Rita Abrokwah Doko remanded him into Police custody pending further investigations into the matter.

The matter was adjourned to March 8, awaiting the ruling on a bail application put in by defence counsel Jerry Avernorgbor for the accused.

It would be recalled that two other friends involved in the offence were earlier on remanded by the court on the charges of defilement and abduction.

Ayim’s accomplices who allegedly took turns to defile the victim are Aaron Acheampong a student and Agbenyo Cyril Eli a salesperson.

They also denied the charges against them when they made their first appearance before the court four days ago. They have also been remanded to reappear on March 8 pending the ruling on their bail application.

Narrating the facts leading to the arrest of Ayim, Chief Inspector Kofi Atimbire said the complainant is a trader and resides at Nungua with the 13-year-old girl who is the victim in the case.

He said on February 14, this year the victim was abducted and sent to the house of Ayim at Regimanuel Grey Estates in Nungua.

Chief Inspector Atimbire said Ayim took advantage of the victim and had sexual intercourse with her on two occasions.

The Prosecution said Ayim walked the victim out of his house after the incident.  She then went to her mother and informed her about her ordeal upon which a report was made to the Police.
