Court sentences armed robber to 10 years imprisonment for robbing GH¢2,000

A man, reported to be unrepentant robber, has been sentenced to 10 years imprisonment by the Goaso Circuit Court for attacking and robbing a hotelier of his cash of GH¢2,000.00.

Godfred Amponsah alias “Tupac” is said to have inflicted deep cutlass wound on the victim during the robbery.

He was charged with robbery and causing harm, and convicted after he had pleaded guilty.

Police Chief Inspector Peter Kwaku Abochie told the court that the incident happened at Sankore in the Asunafo South District, on August 03, last year, at about 2030 hours.

The victim, Simon Boateng, was in his bedroom when he heard an unusual noise and decided to find out what was going on, only to see Amponsah, armed with a cutlass, moving menacingly towards him.

Amponsah ordered him to return to the bedroom and followed him to the place where he threatened to butcher him to death unless he gave him cash of GH¢500.00.

Boateng would not give in to his threat – resisted.

The prosecution said the robber attempted to take a slash at the victim’s head but he blocked that with his left hand, sustaining a deep cut.

He managed to flee for his life as Amponsah ransacked the room and made off with the cash of GH¢2,000.00.

He went into hiding after the crime and was arrested when he engaged the police in a fire fight in another robbery incident.

Amponsah has five separate robbery cases pending before the Goaso Court.
