MD of Ghana Airports Company sacked

Mr John Attafuah, the Managing Director of the Ghana Airports Company, (GACL), has been sacked from his position with immediate effect.

Mr Attafuah has been directed to hand over to the Deputy Managing Director, Mr Yaw Kwakwa, who was asked to act until a substantive appointment was done by government.

Mr Joseph Kofi Adda, the Minister of Aviation, confirming the dismissal to the GNA said instructions had been given to the Board to replace the MD, which would be announced soon.

He said the dismissal of Mr Attafuah was at the discretion of President Nana Akufo Addo.

On whether the Board had been dissolved, the Minister said “l cannot comment on that now, let’s wait till we hear from them.”

President Nana Akufo Addo appointed Mr Attafuah as the MD of GACL in March 2017 and later confirmed him in a statement by the GACL Board.

Mr Attafuah until his appointment was the Managing Director of Virtual Access Limited, a market research company and has over 30 years’ experience in the Energy, Services, Information Technology and Pharmaceutical industries.

The former GACL MD holds a Degree in Computer Science and Statistics from the University of Ghana, Legon and a Master of Science Degree in Systems Development from the Trinity College in Dublin, Ireland.
