A statement issued in Accra and signed by Mr David Eklu, Director-General of the Ghana Police Service and copied to the Ghana News Agency did not name the suspect but believed he was among the youth caught on tape in the destructive act on the churches’ premises.

The Director-General expressed reservations over the spate of prophecies lately by some religious leaders about deaths of certain individuals which has the tendency of causing fear and panic.

He said some of these prophets should be mindful of the security implications of such utterances.

The statement condemned all those who would want to take the law into their own hands in retaliation to such pronouncements and warned them against causing harm, unlawful damage to people’s property, rioting, threat of death, as offences against the law which would not be countenanced.

The statement urged the media to be circumspect in their reportage on such issues and exercise discretion to ensure they are not used to aid the breach of the peace.

The statement called on the public to report actions likely to breach national peace to the police for the law to take its cause.
