Ghana Health Service to commence nationwide vaccination for Yellow Fever
The Ghana Health Service (GHS) will on Wednesday November 28, 2018 begin a nationwide vaccination for the Yellow Fever viral disease.
The seven day exercise will be done for people between the ages 10 and 60 years, in 65 selected municipalities and districts across the country.
Dr Emmanuel Kwadwo Tenkorang, the Ashanti Regional Director of GHS, briefing journalists in Kumasi, said pregnant women, persons allergic to egg and persons with reduced immunity (people living with cancer and HIV/AIDS) were excluded from the exercise.
He said 12 districts and municipalities in the Ashanti Region would take part in the exercise.
They are Asante Mampong, Ejura Sekyedumasi, Ahafo-Ano North, Asante Akim Central, Asante Akim North, Atwima Kwanwoma, Atwima Nwabiagya, Bosomtwi, and Bosome Freho.
The rest are Sekyere Central, Sekyere East, and Sekyere South Districts.
Dr Tenkorang said the districts were selected based on a risk assessment carried out in the country, adding that, about 800,000 persons were expected to be immunized in the beneficiary districts in the Ashanti region.
He said the exercise is expected to take place in all healthcare facilities and selected points in these areas.
The Regional Health Director warned all persons who are not eligible because of their age, not to get vaccinated to prevent any adverse effects.
