Nigerien couple arrested for stealing GH¢15,400.00

The Northern Regional Police Command has arrested a suspected Nigerien couple for allegedly stealing GH¢15,400.00 from two persons in Tamale.

The couple were intercepted and arrested by the Police at Techiman  and after a search on them the said amount was found in their Toyota Corolla car with registration number GE 4547 18.

The Northern Regional Police Crime Officer, Superintendent Kusi Appiah, who briefed the media mentioned the couple as Jamal Mamuud, 29, and Nazari Mahamuud, 28 who posed as missionaries in construction of mosques and manage to steal the amount from the said people in Tamale.

Superintendent Appiah explained that the couple went to one Aminu Haroona, a shop attendant on the pretext of engaging in business transactions with the shop owner and in the process managed to steal some money.

He said the police had acted on the matter following a complaint lodged by the owner of the store and the information gathered by the police were used to track the suspects leading to their subsequent arrest.

Superintendent Appiah said the couple were being held on the offences of conspiracy to steal and stealing and would be sent to court. 

He urged the public to be vigilant when dealing with customers, stressing that individuals who have suffered the same fraudulent acts with the suspected couple should come out to lodge complaints.

Mrs Iddrisu Alimatu, a Mobile Money operator also On March 2, suffered similar fate when the same couple came to her on the pretext of transacting business and made away with her GH¢3,000.00.

She later identified the couple to the Police as the perpetrators.
