Two dead in clash between Konkombas and Chekosis

A clash between Konkombas and Chekosis near a village at Naaduni in Chereponi in the Northern Region has left two people dead. 

The Northern Regional Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Mohammed Tanko, mentioned the deceased as Kura Mustapha, 35, and Mohammed Baafim, 45, whose bodies have been deposited at the Tamale Teaching Hospital Morgue pending autopsy.

Mr Tanko said the Yendi Divisional Police Command and Military Team proceeded to Achuma near Naaduni upon a tip off of the clash, which happened on Saturday.

The Team retrieved one single barrel gun and AK 47 rifle containing 20 rounds of ammunition.

He said at Naaduni in the Konkomba Community, 10 houses, two motorbikes, and five bicycles were burnt in the clash as well as food stuff, including cassava, maize, beans, rice, soybeans, and pepper.

The Police team arrested the chief and 12 elders from the Chekosi Community after a search was conducted during which two locally manufactured single barrel guns, three single barrel guns, and three bottom bracket cartridges were found.

He said calm had since returned to the community with security patrols intensified while investigations were on-going to ascertain the cause of the clash.
