Court restricts movement of police officer for allegedly murdering civilian

A Ho Magistrate Court has tasked the Commander of the Visibility Unit of the Volta Regional Police Command to monitor and restrict the movement of Constable Bright Afrifa awaiting investigations into his alleged murder of one Kujo Johnson Adzato, 39.

The Unit Commander is to produce him in Court when needed.

Mr Ernest Gaewo, counsel for the suspect prayed the Court to grant him bail and hand him over to his superiors, but the presiding judge refused the bail.

Afrifa is facing trial for allegedly beating Adzato to death at a drinking spot at Somey, a suburb of Ho on May 15, 2018 at around 2300 hours.

The facts are that, on Tuesday, May 15, at about 2300 hours, the deceased who lived in the same community with the police officer entered a drinking spot in the area, where he met the officer having some drinks.

The deceased was said to have jokingly attempted to take the officer’s drink, which resulted in a scuffle, with Adzato falling unconscious outside the drinking spot.

The Police Officer took Adzato to a nearby hospital but he was not attended to, because he was not having a health insurance card.

The next day, relations of Adzato rushed him to the Volta Regional Hospital, where he was said to have died hours later.

The case has been adjourned to June 22, this year.
