Ghana is ready to share experiences with Liberia – Veep

Vice President Bawumia

Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has said Ghana would explore avenues to share her experiences with Liberia while strengthening the bilateral ties for their mutual benefit.

He said Ghana was ready to offer a helping hand to Liberia in her efforts to move forward after years of devastating war.

Vice President Bawumia gave the assurance when Madam Jewel Cianeh Howard Taylor, Liberia’s Vice President, paid a courtesy call on him at the Jubilee House in Accra.

Dr Bawumia recounted some challenges the Akufo-Addo-led Government encountered upon assuming office and measures undertaken to surmount them.

He said the stabilisation of the macro economy, restoration of the business confidence in the economy and making the education curricula relevant to the needs of the people would go a long way to turn around the fortunes of Liberians.

He said with dedication and hard work, the people of Liberia could make a headway in their development efforts, adding; ‘‘Ensuring value addition to agricultural produce and a policy of infrastructure development would go a long way to provide jobs for the youth’’.

Madam Taylor, on her part, said she was in Ghana to explore the possibility of engaging the services of retired Ghanaian doctors and teachers to help strengthen the capacity of Liberian institutions.

She expressed her country’s gratitude to the Government and people of Ghana for their assistance during the long period of civil war, which Ghana hosted large numbers of Liberian refugees at the Buduburam Refugee Camp, saying ‘‘Ghana has become like a home to us.’’
