Contractors on Eastern Corridor asked to go back to site

Government has directed contractors working on the Eastern Corridor road to return to site, Dr. Archibald Yao Letsa, Volta Regional Minister has said.

“The contractors have 14 days to get back to site otherwise their contracts could be terminated” he stated.

Dr Letsa said this when the Coalition of Transport Associations, Vehicle Owners and Civil Society Groups paid a courtesy call on him with a petition to the President on the bad state of the Eastern Corridor road.

Mr. Godsway Amu, leader of the Coalition said the state of the corridor, especially from Peki to Damanko covering 12 Municipal and District Assemblies was giving rise to road crashes, robbery cases and decline in economic activities on the stretch.

He said the state of the road was so bad that passengers occasionally got down their vehicles and walked some distances before getting on board, when it rained, due to trenches and ditches.

The group called on government to fast track the construction of the corridor to avoid further agitations during the rainy season.
