Drivers appeal for reduction in spare parts cost

The Nkawkaw branch of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) of the Trades Union Congress, has appealed to the Government to put in policies to help reduce the high cost of spare parts and taxes on commercial vehicles.

Speaking in an interview with the Ghana News Agency, the Secretary of the Union, Nana Akuamoah Asante, said the main challenges facing members for many years were the high cost of lubricants, spare parts, maintenance and fuel, which made the running cost of the transport business very high.

He said the situation often made transport owners to depend on bank loans at high interest rates to support the business.

Nana Asante, therefore, appealed for government intervention to make the transport business lucrative.
