Kpikpira community to get ten irrigation dams under One-Village-One-Dam

Mr Frank Fusieni Adongo, Deputy Upper East Regional Minister, has announced that the Kpikpira community has been allocated ten irrigation dams for construction as part of government’s One-Village-One-Dam programme.

Mr Adongo said the move was part of efforts to transform agriculture and ensure food security in the Kpikpira community.

He said government was implementing the One-Village- One-Dam policy to encourage all-year round farming to engage farmers to produce large quantities of vegetables for the region and for export.

Mr Adongo was speaking at the climax of the 15th edition of the Danjuar festival celebrated by the chiefs and people of the Kpikpira Traditional Area in the Garu-Tempane District of the Upper East Region.

Mr Adongo said the Planting for Food and Jobs programme was the right policy to promote food security and that the number of farmers expected to benefit from the programme this year would be doubled to ensure large production.

He said more than 200 tractors and farm equipment would be distributed this year to farmers, while 50 Farmer Service Centers (FSCs) would be established to offer technical support to the farmers.

He assured the people of government’s commitment to promote good road networks in the area by ensuring the completion of the Bolgatanga-Bawku-Polimakom road.

Naba Dazuur II, Divisional Chief of the Kpikpira Traditional Area, commended government for its efforts in implementing its flagship policies in the area.

He called on the public to support the various policies being introduced by government.
