Fire ravages container spare parts shops in Suame

Raging fire has ravaged a number of container spare parts shops and two parked vehicles at the Suame Roundabout in Kumasi.

It is reported to have started from a wooden structure used as kitchen for the school feeding programme and quickly spread to engulf the nearby shops and vehicles.

Mr. Semekor Fiadzo, the Ashanti Regional Fire Officer, who confirmed this to the Ghana News Agency (GNA), said they received an emergency call in the early hours of Tuesday – between 0215 and 0220 hours.

They battled for about three hours to contain the blaze because of the inaccessibility of the place.

He said their investigations established that it was caused by a naked fire left unattended at the kitchen.

Food items for the feeding programme, kept at the kitchen, were also completely destroyed.

Mr. Fiadzo reminded everybody to heed fire safety education to prevent fire outbreaks.
