Good health is better than riches – Dr Bawumia declares

Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia on Friday joined thousands of Muslims at the Abbossey Okai Central Mosque to thank God for providing him good health and ensuring his safe return after a two weeks medical leave in the United Kingdom. 

The Vice President thanked Allah for His mercies and granting him good health, saying, ‘‘Good health is better than riches’’ 

Dr Bawumia, who was wearing white apparel and beaming with smiles, arrived at the Central Mosque at 1300 hrs in the company of the National Chief Imam, Sheikh Nuhu Shaributu.

They were ushered into the guest room for about 20 minutes and later joined the fully packed mosque for the Jumah Prayers, which lasted for about 30 minutes.

Dr Bawumia said: ‘‘I’m happy I have come back in good health and ready to continue work.

‘‘When you go round you take your health for granted, but when you don’t feel well, that when you begin to appreciate what God has actually given you.

‘‘When God gives you good health you really have to appreciate it and take good care of yourself; good health is better than riches and we have to thank God for good health’’.

The Vice President expressed his appreciation to the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, the Government and all Ghanaians of diverse religious background for their support and fervent prayers throughout the period.

Dr Bawumia thanked his wife, Mrs Samira Bawumia, for being at his bedside throughout the period, the doctors and nurses, as well as the entire medical staff for their diligent care.

Some dignitaries who joined the Vice President for the Jumah Prayer include Mustapha Abdul-Hamid, the Minister of Information; Alhaji Boniface Saddique, the Minister of Zongo and Inner City Development; Sheikh I.C. Quaye, the Chairman of the Hajj Board; Mr Ben Abdallah, the Chairman of the Muslim Caucus in Parliament; and Mr Hassan Tampuli, the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana National Petroleum Authority as well as Ministers of State and Members of Parliament.
