Court orders probe into age of demonstrator

An Accra Circuit Court has ordered a probe to determine the age of one of the Togolese nationals arrested for the unlawful demonstrations in Accra recently at the Police hospital.

The court did not take the plea of Mumuni Jawal, an alleged minor, when, he appeared in court on Monday.

Counsel for the accused had prayed the court to grant Jawal bail but the court refused the application, saying “it will grant the bail upon the outcome of the Police report on Friday, November 17.”

The counsel told the court that the accused person was 11 years old and being a minor presented his guardian, who would stand surety for him.

However, when the court asked the guardian to produce the accused person’s birth certificate, he said he did not have it.

At the last adjourned date, the court granted bail to 26 other Togolese nationals arrested for conspiracy to commit crime to wit failing to notify police and unlawfully demonstrating in Accra.

The accused persons were granted bail in the sum of GH¢10,000.00 each with one surety each to reappear on November 13.

The accused persons are Gbandi Muda, Attati Yao, Kodjo Larbi, Suweba Alhassan, Fuseina Dzagba, Itchoko Matey, Najowa Masawudu, Selina Abubakar, Ndu Shaibu, Mawan Alhassan, Ayiba Kodjo Bruno, Haruna Amiriyao, Faredu Ali, Razak Salifu and Ichadjeri Awal.

The rest are Aziz Fuseini, Alhassan Issah, Alormasor Adi, Issaka Shaban, Dodoye Yaw Worlassi, Abdul Karim Ibrahim, Mubarak Abudu, Abdulai Latif, Jibril Mohammed and Issaka Alilu.

The substantive case has been adjourned to November 30.
