Eiffage Génie Civil and RMT Industry sign agreement on Tema Port
Eiffage Génie Civil and RMT Industry –und Elektrotechnik GmbH, have signed an agreement to form a consortium, which will work on the Tema Port Expansion Project.
A statement issued by the Embassy of France in Accra and copied to the Ghana News Agency, said the signing ceremony, took place at the port project site office in the presence of Mr Christian Combes, the Director of the African branch of Eiffage Infrastructures, and the Ambassador of France to Ghana, Mr François Pujolas.
It said the agreement aims at concluding the first phase of the Tema Port Expansion Project.
It noted that the specific project includes developing the infrastructure of the port (bus stops and communication), providing the necessary power supply (cabling, lighting poles), and to have a role of advice and expertise.
The consortium would also be responsible for commissioning the new facilities of the Tema Port.
The statement said from the beginning, France had been committed to the Tema Port extension project through the participation of Bolloré in Meridian Port Services, to a total investment of $1.5 billion.
It said Meridian Port Services and Eiffage had signed a 120M EUR contract, to contribute to the extension of Tema port, designed to leverage Ghana’s strategic location in the heart of West Africa and to make it a major trading hub and attract more funding.
It said most of the expenditure would be made in Ghana, and that, a €100 million would be dedicated to levelling works, whiles €20 million would serve to build a power plant.
The statement said this was a new French investment in the Port of Tema, which was welcomed by the French Ambassador to Ghana.
“Through the investment of Bolloré Transport and Logistics, we can get a glimpse of the possibilities offered by this successful model of joint venture,” Mr Pujolas said.
He explained that projects of this nature enhance the attractiveness of Ghana, contributing in particular to make it a platform for developing trade and investment, especially flow of direct investments (FDIs), in the sub-region.
“It is a new step forward for France in its partnership with Ghana,” the Ambassador added.
The statement said the representative of Eiffage indicated that this project would create between 1,000 and 1,500 jobs during the contract period.
The statement noted that, the contract was also a new commitment to the country for Eiffage, which was already involved in the interconnection project between Ghana and Burkina Faso’ electric grids.
