ECA forms Network of Economic Journalists for West Africa

The Network with ECA and ECOWAS officials

The United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA), West Africa Regional Office in collaboration with the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has initiated and formed the Network of Economic Journalists for West Africa after a two-day workshop in the Senegalese capital, Dakar.

The workshop held on September 28 and 29, 2017 was attended by 30 journalists, two each selected from the 15-member countries of the ECOWAS.

The workshop discussed the role of the ECA and its communication strategy. The Communication Director ECOWAS, Liberor Doscof made presentations on the structure and objectives of ECOWAS as well as the organisation’s communication strategy, highlighting its achievements and challenges.

According to the Director of the ECA, West Africa Regional Office, Dr. Dimitri Sanga, the organization is a think tank generating ideas to support Africa’s transformation. He said the ECA generates ideas which it shares with governments in Africa.

The journalists will be expected to support the ECA in the dissemination of its information and activities.
