Seven governing Board for some Agencies under the Ministry of Health was inaugurated in Accra with a call on members to muster courage to take the bull by the horns to achieve their mandates.

The Governing Boards are Ghana College of Physicians And Surgeons; Ghana Medical and Dental Council; Pharmacy Council; Cape Coast Teaching Hospital, Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, Health Facilities Regulatory Agency Board, and Psychology Council.

Dr Kweku Agyeman-Manu, Minister for Health, who made the call in Accra, said though the institutions they were asked to govern have already achieve some significant successes, “they are also, no doubt confronted with some challenges that needed urgent attention.

“You are therefore brought on board at this time in the history of our nation to find lasting and far- reaching solutions in order to bring them up to the expected levels of successes we all want to see, in the years ahead.

“As you occupy these enviable positions, Chief Executive Officers, Management and other identifiable bodies that you will work with closely would bring to fore, the reality of the situation as it is. When confronted with these realities, muster the needed courage and take the bull by the horns and surmount what may seem to be a daunting task,” he added.

Dr Agyeman –Manu said that was the reason for the President chose them out of millions of Ghanaians around, adding, “in fact, you have been chosen to take up these challenges squarely and with determination. You are indeed to justify the confidence the President has reposed in you by appointing you to this high office”.

He also urged the members to use their rich experiences, expertise and skills gained over several years of work to fashion out a workable solution to the challenges that confront the institutions they have been assigned to deal with.

“As already indicated, though each agency, no doubt has its unique problems and challenges, most of them cut across,” he said, urging them not to work within their comfort zone but to work with other health related agencies to find common grounds to tackle issues.

On behalf of the Seven Governing Boards, Nana Effah Appenten, Omanhene of Bompata Traditional Area, Ashanti Region, thanked the President for the honour done them.

He said good health of the citizenry was cardinal in the development of every nation and pledged their support to manage resources at their disposal very prudently and cost effectively.

He said in the discharge of their responsibilities, they would be successful with the support from the Ministry.

Earlier, Dr Agyeman-Manu led the various Governing Boards to swear the oath of office and the oath of secrecy.
