President in New York for UN General Assembly

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo will leave Accra on Friday at the head of Ghana’s delegation to the 72nd Session of the United Nations (UN) General Assembly in New York. 

The 72nd Regular Session of the UN General Assembly convened at the UN’ Headquarters on September 12, 2017. But the General debate would open on Tuesday, September 19, 2017, on the theme, “Focusing on People: Striving for Peace and a Decent Life for All on a Sustainable Planet”. 

President Akufo-Addo, would, as co-Chair of the Advocacy Group of Eminent Persons for the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), participate in a series of SDGs events, and also deliver a speech on the theme “Africa Beyond Aid”, at the 5th Annual International Conference on Sustainable Development, at the Earth Institute, Columbia University, whilst there. 

He is also expected to hold bilateral talks with some colleague Heads of State, as well as with some Chief Executive Officers of important global enterprises. 

On September 19, 2017, the President is billed to receive the “National Achievement Award” on behalf of the people of Ghana at an event to be organised by the Africa-America Institute. 

He would on Thursday, September 21, 2017, deliver his maiden address to the UN General Assembly, and hold a meeting with UN Secretary General, António Guterres, on Friday, September 22, 2017. 

The President was accompanied by the First Lady, Mrs Rebecca Akufo-Addo; Minister of Foreign Affairs, Shirley Ayorkor Botchway, Minister of Finance, Mr. Ken Ofori-Atta; Minister  of Gender, Children and Social Protection, Ms Otiko Afisa Djaba; Deputy Minister of Energy, Mohammed Amin Adam and officials from the Presidency. 

President Akufo-Addo is expected back in Ghana on Sunday, September 24, 2017.
