Mourinho says not getting carried away with good start

Jose Mourinho

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho said he is too experienced to get carried away despite his side’s impressive performance in last weekend’s Premier League season-opener.

United, crushed West Ham 4-0, to start the campaign with new signing Romelu Lukaku scoring twice.

But Mourinho said he would not judge anything on one match ahead of Saturday’s trip to Swansea City.

“I am too stable and too experienced to lose my discipline and stability and think 4-0 makes us a dream team,” he told a press conference on Friday. “We are not.”

“We have more confidence than last season. More time, more happiness, more relaxed in way we play.

“I am calm. When I look to last match, I like many things. The challenge is to repeat the same kind of performance. Good tactical discipline, clean sheet, good football, good dynamic in attack.”

United finished outside the top four in Mourinho’s first season in charge.

“Last season we started three matches, nine points – and finished sixth,” he said.

The team did win the League Cup domestically and lifted the Europa League to ensure Champions League football this term.
