Ghanaian boxer promises to clinch world title

The World Boxing Organisation (WBO) welterweight champion Obodai Sai has promised to clinch the WBO Middleweight World title as he locks horn with Namibian Kautondoka Walter in a world title eliminator on Friday, June 16.

The WBO Middleweight World title eliminator, organised by Lions Boxing Promotions, would be staged at the Bukom Boxing arena.

The Ghanaian boxer has a record of 34 fights with 32 wins, two defeats and 24 knockouts as against Walter’s 14 fights with 13 knockouts.

Obodai is currently ranked 12th in the WBO ranking while his opponent is ranked 10th.

Sai, called on Ghanaians to rally behind him as he faces a tougher opponent.

A member of the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA), Mr Lawrence Carl Lokko commended the organisers for putting up the fight, saying that, the GBA would assist promoters get more fights for Ghanaian boxers.

“The GBA is looking for quality fights for Ghanaian boxers and we will give any promoter or organiser the needed support to promote and develop boxing in the country,” he said.

The Chief Executive Officer of Lions Boxing Promotions, Mr Cephas Ayiah said his outfit aims to give hope to talented boxers on the street and called on Ghanaians to support them.

He said the two boxers are currently the best welterweight boxers on the continent and also ranked by the WBO and that makes the bout a credible one.

Other pairings on the night are; Rafael Mensah Vs Edward Kambasi (Lightweight Contest) and Michael Ansah Vs Patrick Okine (Lightweight Contest).

In the Super Middleweight National Championship; Emmanuel Martey will fight Abdul Karim whiles Kpakpo Allotey faces Samuel Turkson for the National Super featherweight championship.
