Community pleads for strong police presence

The assembly member for Mpaem electoral area in the Fanteakwa District, Mr Senanu Asitoakor, has appealed for strong police presence and visibility on the Begro-Dedeso road to stop frequent robbery attacks on travelers.

He told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that robbers were making life miserable for people, who had been using the road.

He what they found even more disturbing was the audacity of these criminals to strike – attack and forcibly seize cash and other valuables of travelers in broad daylight.

This, he claimed, had been going on almost every other day.

Mr. Asitoakor cited an instance in last April, where teachers at Dadeso, Mpaem, Oboaso, Odotoom and other communities, who had gone to withdraw their salaries from the bank and were returning from at Begro, were attacked and robbed of their monies.

The miscreants have been taking advantage of the bad nature of sections of the road to cause pain and misery to the people served by this road.

He said highway robbery in the area started in year 2015, but went down when the police began to patrol the road.

The police, however, stopped the activity as the nation few weeks to the December 2016 polls, and that allowed the return of the robbers.

Mr. Asitoakor said the spate of robberies had become a huge bother and disincentive to foreign companies engaged in vegetable production and export in the area.
