Cocoa theft case adjourned to June 8

The Akyem Swedru Circuit Court On Monday adjourned to June 8, a case in which one Abena Ohenewa has been charged with stealing bags of cocoa beans.

This was after Mr Kwabena Oppong, the complainant and a cocoa Purchasing clerk of Adwumpa Buying Company at Akyem Batabi had cross-examined Mr Emmanuel Gyasi, District Manager of Nyonkopa Company limited.

Narrating the facts to the court presided over by Mr Alexander Oworea, Police Prosecutor, Chief Inspector Fabian Salla said on November 11, 2016, the complainant reported to the Police about the theft of his nine bags of cocoa beans from his shed at Akyem Batabi.

He said the complainant indicated that he suspected a group of young men whom he suspects might have stolen the bags of beans and sold to Ohenewa.

Inspector Salla said during police investigation on the same day of the complaint 25 bags of cocoa beans were found at Ohenewa’s shed of which Mr Oppong identified nine of the bags as his.

The prosecutor said when the accused was questioned of her source of the supply of the bags of the cocoa beans she could not identify anybody.

The accused record books also show that between November 4 to 6, 2016 purchases made were six bags of cocoa beans which were short of 19 bags and therefore the police arrested her and seized the 25 bags of the cocoa beans to the Police Station.

Inspector Salla said after thorough investigation Ohenewa was charged with the offence and arraigned before court.
