Dangote CEO wins building and construction industry award

Mr Tor Nygard, Chief Executive Officer of Dangote Cement Ghana Limited has been awarded the building and construction Chief Executive of the year 2016 at the Ghana Entrepreneur and Corporate Executive Awards 2017.

The award is in recognition of his leadership towards the growth of the cement industry in Ghana.

Receiving the award, Mr Nygard expressed his appreciation to the organisers for the recognition.

“This is a recognition of the collective efforts we at Dangote Cement have put into the growth of our company over the years. It further demonstrates that the whole world has been watching every step we have been making towards our expansion here in Ghana. This award, no doubt, will spur us to continue to work hard to deliver on our corporate mandate”, he said.

The building and construction Chief Executive Officer of the year was selected by a panel of industry experts, taking into consideration the individual contributions towards the growth of the industry.

Commenting on the award, the Founder of the Entrepreneurs Foundation Ghana, said “we recognise Mr Tor Nygard for his excellent contribution to the building and construction industry in Ghana. Under his leadership, we have seen the stabilisation of prices of cement and healthy competition among industry players, which has invariably provided choice for the end user. Dangote Cement has also grown in terms of their market shares and human resource base”.

Other business leaders who were awarded at the event included the President of Groupe Ideal, Dr Nii Kotei Dzani; Group Chairman of First Sky Group of Companies, Mr Eric Kukortse; Managing Director of Nestle Ghana Ltd., Mrs Freda Aduplan and the Chief Executive Officer of Unibank Ghana Ltd, Mr Felix Nyako-Pong.

The Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry, Mr Carlos Ahenkora, congratulated the award winners for their distinct contributions to the growth of the Ghanaian economy.

He assured the business leaders of government’s continuous support and also challenged them to take advantage of the government’s one-district-one-factory policy to expand their businesses.

The event was on the theme “Promoting economic growth through private sector development and corporate governance”. It is an initiative of the Entrepreneurs Foundation of Ghana in collaboration with the Ministries of Trade and Industry and Business Development.
