Support government to grow the economy – Minister

Simon Osei-Mensah

Mr. Simon Osei-Mensah, the Ashanti Regional Minister, has rallied Ghanaian workers to give strong support to the government in the implementation of its various policy initiatives to grow the economy and create decent jobs.

He indicated that the success of the ‘one district one factory’, ‘planting for food and jobs’, ‘one village one dam’ and other interventions, would largely depend on the commitment and dedication of the workers.

Mr. Osei-Mensah was addressing workers in the region at a “May Day” parade held at the Jubilee Park, in Kumasi.

“Ghana at 60; Mobilizing for Ghana’s future through the creation of decent jobs” was the theme chosen for this year’s event.

He underlined the determination of the government to work hard to build a nation that worked for everybody.

What was left, was for all to unite behind it, renew their faith in the nation and the spirit of patriotism, to restore Ghana to the path of socio-economic progress.

Mr. Osei-Mensah expressed optimism about the future and urged the workers to continue to give it their all to increase productivity.

He saluted organized labor for the tremendous role and contribution to the strengthening of democratic governance and national economic development.

He repeated that creating the right environment for businesses to thrive remained a major priority of the Akufo-Addo Administration.

Sister Cynthia Maame Aba Sam Ananoo, Regional Secretary of Trades Union Congress (TUC), spoke of the readiness of the workers to partner the government to fix challenges facing the economy.

She noted that after 60 years of independence, most Ghanaian workers continued to live in abject poverty, unable to assess basic social services – good medical care, education for their wards, decent housing.

She, however, stated that there was now a new opportunity to change the situation and urged the government to initiate appropriate measures to make things better.
