Ve-Golokwati gets fire station

The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), has commissioned a new fire station for the Afadzato South District at Ve-Golokwati in the Volta Region.

The District for many years was relying on fire stations at Kpando and Hohoe during emergencies.

Dr.Archibald Yao Letsa, Volta Regional Minister, commissioning the station, said adequate preparedness of institutions and facilities to fight fires was very important and charged Fire Officers who would be stationed there to be “professionally up and doing”.

“It is also our hope that proper care will be given to the equipment and the vehicle to ensure that they are always in good condition and are ready for duty,” he stated.

Dr. Albert Brown Gaise, Chief Fire Officer, GNFS, in an address read on his behalf, said the establishment of the fire station was in line with the Service’s policy to establish a station in every district in the country.

He appealed to benevolent individuals and companies to help establish fire stations in their vicinities.

Madam Daniella Mawusi Ntow Sarpong, Regional Fire Commander, said fire safety was a shared responsibility and that the new station would educate the community and ensure peace and safety along that stretch of the Eastern Corridor road.

She revealed that the Service and other stakeholders were working to establish a station at New Juapong.

Togbui Delume VII, Paramount Chief of Ve-Deme who chaired the commissioning, said bush fires remained a major challenge and an annual affair, and expressed the hope that it would be minimized.
