Chief advises media against fanning chieftaincy disputes
Obrempong Professor Boachie Amoah Konomansa II, the Paramount Chief of Nsoatre in the Sunyani West District has appealed to the media not to use their platforms to fan chieftaincy disputes. Instead, he said the media as a major key partner to nation building was to give prominence to developmental issues, and avoid nation wreckers, detractors, dissenters.
Obrempong Prof Konomansa II made the appeal when he interacted with a section of the media at his palace at Nsoatre on Thursday.
He emphasised that the media could make and unmake a nation, hence the need for practitioners to be circumspect with their reportage, guard against sensationalism and story embellishment in order not to jeopardise national peace.
The Paramount Chief indicated that the chieftaincy institution was a highly respected body and a key element in nation building, and therefore underlined the need for the media to highlight the contributions of traditional rulers towards accelerated national development.
Obrempong Prof Konomansa II, expressed unhappiness that some media organsations had allowed their outlets to be used as a tool to fuel conflicts and litigations that had caused unnecessary tensions and slowed down development in many towns.
He emphasised that the chiefs and people of Nsoatre cherished the prevailing peace in the town, and they would not sit unconcern for “the few selfish individuals” to cause divisions and create enmity among the people.
Obrempong Prof Konomansa II, lauded the initiative and contributions of the media to fighting illegal mining in the country, saying “this is the path we expect you to tread for positive outcomes”.
