GCNet presents GH¢17m dividends to Ghana government

The Ghana Community Network Services Limited (GCNet) on Friday presented a cheque for GH¢17 million to Government as the final dividend payment for the 2016 fiscal year.   

The Company had earlier paid a dividend of GH¢10 million, bringing the total payment to GH¢ 27 million.
  
Dr Nortey K. Omaboe, the Executive Chairman, GCNet, who presented the cheque to the Minister of Finance said, last year the company paid GH¢35 million in corporate tax to Government.
 
He said shareholders from inception had agreed to support revenue mobilisation of Government in various frontiers of the economy and in addition to systems deployed had committed itself to ensure all areas of their activities to bring revenue to government.
 
“We have been extremely consistent in the area of statutory declaration and have also pursued a fairly aggressive dividend policy to ensure that dues are paid to Government,” he added.
 
Mr Ken Ofori-Atta, who received the cheque commended GCNet for being consistent in its payment of dividends.
 
He said with a budget deficit of 8.9 per cent, which government was trying to bring down needed a critical revenue mobilisation measure, adding that the role of Customs and the port could not be over stated.
 
He said there was the need to ensure human interventions were limited as much as possible through the use of technology.
