Teacher faces drug charges

Sonny Rocky, a part-time teacher, was on Wednesday put before an Accra Circuit Court for possessing some quantities of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp.

He pleaded not guilty to the charges and the court presided over by Mr Aboagye Tandoh remanded him into police custody to reappear on March 24.

Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Kwabena Adu, told the court that the accused person is a part-time teacher residing at Ashaley Botwe, a suburb in Accra.

He said on March 9, the accused person was arrested in connection with a stealing case involving six generators worth Ghȼ600,000.00.

Pursuant to that, on March 10, personnel of the Tesano Divisional Command conducted a search in the accused persons room, in his presence as well as his brother-in-law, which led to the discovery of some quantities of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, concealed in a white rubber in his bag.

The prosecution told the court that, in his investigation caution statement, Sonny admitted that the substance belonged to him and that he smokes it in order to mitigate the severity of his sickness.
