Local agribusiness firm signs agreement with four international processors
Kofi Vinyo and Company Limited (KVCL), a Kwatire-based agribusiness firm in the Sunyani West District of Brong-Ahafo region would from next year export and supply four international food processing companies with farm produce in commercial quantities.
The firm has signed agreement with the companies – Deon food ingredients and Stel and Van Koot in the Netherlands, Swastik enterprise in India as well as Agribio in Italy.
It is expected to export thousands of tons of tiger nuts, maize, ginger, chilli pepper, raw cashew nuts and other vegetables annually.
Mr Kofi Vinyo, the Managing Director of KVCL disclosing this to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Kwatire said the contracts between his company and the foreign partners were sealed to operate within five years.
He was sharing his experience after attending a-five-day international agric fair held at Nuremberg, a city in Germany.
According to him, the Biofach Organic fair was organised by the German government and attended by business entrepreneurs mostly into food processing drawn from Europe, Asia, North and South America, and Afric.
Mr Vinyo, a 33 year old physically challenged who was adjudged the 2016 national maize farmer explained that his company had obtained acres of land at Kwatire and would engage 150 farmer groups to cultivate the crops.
He said some of his foriegn partners had agreed to supply him with improved seedlings to be planted so that the company would be able to provide or meet their demands.
Mr Vinyo added that irrigation facilities were also being constructed in the farms for regular water supply.
He indicated that the agric sector held numerous opportunities for the country and underlined the need for the government to support and expose farmers to international markets.
Mr Vinyo advised the youth to regard farming as a business and go into large scale production saying it was not true that the sector was a reserved for the academically poor persons.
He said that the youth would develop the interest and venture into farming if the government made it attractive by availing credit and logistical support.
Mr Vinyo lauded the numerous government interventions for modernised agriculture and he was optimistic that an enabling environment would be created for the sector to thrive.
