President confirms Asante Apeatu as IGP

Asante Apeatu – IGP

The President, Nana Akufo-Addo has confirmed the appointment of David Asante Apeatu as the substantive Inspector-General of Police (IGP) of Ghana after consultation with the Council of State.

In a press release issued March 3, 2017, Major General Obed Akwa has been appointed the Chief of Defence Staff of the Ghana Armed Forces and Major General William Azure Ayamda is the new Chief of Army Staff.

The appointments, the release said, take immediate effect.

Mr. Apeatu was appointed the Acting IGP in January. Before his appointment, he was the Director-General of Research and Planning of the Ghana Police Service. He was appointed in acting capacity because the Council of State was not constituted at that time, and the president needed to appoint the IGP in consultation with the Council.

The Council was recently constituted and inaugurated, paving the way for the confirmations.
