NHIA raises GH¢10.4m premium and processing fees in B/A

The Brong-Ahafo Regional Office of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) mobilized GH¢10,420,454.20 in premium payment and processing fees, last year.

During the period, it collaborated with the Ghana Education Service (GES) to register 367,841 students and pupils for the health insurance scheme.

Mr. Emmanuel Baah Danquah, the acting Regional Director, announced this at an annual performance review meeting of the Authority in Sunyani.

The two-day meeting was attended by municipal and district scheme managers, alongside other officials from across the region, and it provided the forum to discuss solutions to challenges facing the social intervention.

He identified delays in claims payment to service providers as one of the major challenges, saying that, out of the GH¢69,477,263.40 owed them, GH¢7,076,615.03 had been paid.

He spoke of a claim payment verification and compliance audit exercise to bring about transparency, remove duplication of claims and other corrupt practices.

He indicated that the Board and Management of the NHIA had embarked on a number of initiatives to enhance the sustainability of the scheme.

These included the introduction and usage of Health Ministry prescription form, the issuance of NHIS instant identification (ID) card, electronic (e-) claims, piloting of on-site banking, and e-receipting in Sunyani, Berekum, Techiman and Kintampo North.

He reminded service providers to stick to standard treatment guidelines and other protocols, for the smooth operation of the scheme.
