Turkey awards more scholarships to Ghanaian students
Turkey has pledged her commitment towards helping Ghana improve her education sector by awarding more than 50 scholarships to Ghanaian students every year to enrol with Turkish tertiary institutions for their undergraduate and post-graduate programmes.
Mrs Nesrin Bayazit, the Turkish Ambassador to Ghana, said this on Monday when she paid a courtesy call on Dr Mathew Opoku Prempeh, the Minister of Education, in Accra to discuss the prospects of Ghana’s relationship with Turkey in terms of education.
She said Turkey had continually awarded scholarships to some Ghanaian students to be trained in engineering, medical sciences and information technology in Turkey.
Mrs Bayazit, however, gave the assurance that Turkey was working harder to deepen its partnership with Ghana by increasing her scholarship programmes for Ghanaian students so as to boost the country’s education sector.
“I came here to wish the minister well in his work and to also explore the opportunities of deepening our relationship on the education sector,” she said.
Mrs Bayazit invited the minister to visit Turkey to engage in the signing of educational partnership agreements between the two countries so as to cement the plans to make them functional.
Meanwhile, Dr Prempeh prayed the country to focus on scholarship packages that favoured vocation and technical education saying Ghana needed support to harness its vocational and technical potentials.
He commended Turkey for the support and asked for more supports for information technology, sciences, mathematics and education training.
The Minister assured the Turkish Ambassador of his commitment toward pushing for the progress of all prudent education initiatives that would be championed by Turkey to support Ghana’s education growth.
“We are hopeful that we could expedite the signing of these educational agreements after a careful review is done to find out how favourable they are to government and the country’s education,” he said.
