DVLA poised to improve operational performance

Alhaji Mohammed Twumasi, the Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Drivers and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA), has assured the public of the authority’s commitment to provide improved customer service.

“As an authority, we are carrying out lots of transformation processes in the areas of office space and elimination of “goro boys” among other security measures to continue to win the confidence of the generality of the people we serve,” he said.

Alhaji Twumasi said this when he welcomed the Minister of Transport, Mr  Kweku Ofori Asiamah, to the Takoradi Office of the Authority as part of the minister’s familiarisation tour of departments and agencies under his jurisdiction.

The Western Regional Office of the DVLA is currently undergoing structural engineering to accommodate the pressure of both human and vehicular activities.

Alhaji Twumasi said the DVLA had conducted a thorough examination into its operations adding; “we have identified the challenges that impede our service delivery and, as an authority, our hands are on deck to fix all challenges”.

Mr Emmanuel Narh, the Regional Head of the DVLA, said the reconstruction of the one ground-floor facility into a two-storey office block was about 40 per cent complete to give the premises a face lift.

Mr Narh said staff strength of the regional office had also increased to 22 to maximise operational efficiency.

He, however, requested from the ministry new vehicular inspection equipment such as modern brake testers, exhaust gas analysers, beam alignment machines and headlamp testers to aid in efficient and effective discharge of their work.

Mr Kweku Ofori Asiamah, after touring the site, urged the contractor to keep to the schedule date of the project to prevent delay.

He said the ministry would work hard to make Ghana the transportation hub of West Africa.
