Nana Ama Konadu is the new Asantehemaa

Nana Ama Konadu, Asantehemaa

Nana Ama Konadu, 83, and a biological sister of the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has been chosen as the new Asantehemaa.

Known to many as “Nana Panin”, she succeeds her deceased mother, Nana Afua Kobi Serwaah Ampem II, who reigned for 39 years.

Her selection comes exactly 80 days after the death of the late Asantehemaa.

The new Queen is expected to be formally introduced to the Kumasi Traditional Council and the Asanteman Council in the coming days by the King.

The decision on who becomes the Asantehemaa rests exclusively with the king.
