Former GPHA worker accuses Mahama of bad faith

President John Mahama

Mr Stephen Ashitey, Leader of the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA) says non- payment of the ex-gratia of some 3,000  laid off workers of the facility by the Mahama administration, was in bad faith.

He said during Ex President John Dramani Mahama’s last State of the Nation Address, he said government was a vehicle for the progressive implementation of policies from one regime to another.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency in an interview in Accra, he said on July 13, 2012 the late President John Evans Atta Mills gave a directive that the workers who were retrenched 14 years ago should be paid compensation.

“We expected that President Mahama would have pursued the progressive implementation process to pay us our ex-gratia. So far only five our colleagues had received the money,” he said.

“Families have been destroyed, some of our colleagues have turned to begging while others are living under trees,” he added.
