President John Dramani Mahama says his party will accept the final election results from the Electoral Commission (EC) whether negative or positive.

“We need to be calm and wait for the EC to finish the collation. We will respect the outcome of the elections positive or negative. Let’s get the results. Let’s get them and compare,” he said.

Briefing the media today, he noted that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) as a party respects the rule of law and that since his government is still in power they stand to lose more should any chaos erupt.

He noted that the NDC is a law abiding party and entreated all to stay calm and wait for the EC to finally declare the outcome of the election.

This is the first time the President is speaking publicly after the December 7 election was conducted three days ago. He had earlier in the morning tweeted saying no matter the outcome, he will make Ghana proud.

Opposition candidate, Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) yesterday, addressed the media and party supporters at his residence in Nima, urging all to be calm and wait for the final results from the EC.

The EC has been under pressure from the NPP and other civil society organisations like the Institute for Democratic Governance (IDEG) to release the final outcome of the election but it (EC) says it will only do so at the appropriate time.
